Design & print your own patterned fabric

Service Description

This full day workshop is suitable for enthusiastic beginners and those with some prior experience. We will be exploring how we can design a print which repeats seamlessly when printed onto a length of fabric or wallpaper. Set in the inspiring studio of Glass Quarter Designs, this is a friendly and welcoming space in which to explore pattern design, before carving and printing your design. You will have the option of printing your design onto a tea towel, a bandana, a tote bag as well as printing a length of fabric you can use for future sewing projects. You will learn: - the materials and equipment required to create your very own block print - the basic principles and terminology of printmaking - How to design, and test and refine your own repeat patterns - How to print your fabric, using specialist fabric printing inks. Our designs for this workshop will be floral. Bring along any photos, sketches, or digital images that you would like to use for inspiration. There will also be some materials in the workshops you can use for inspiration on the day. Our workshop runs from 11am to 4.30pm and is suitable for 16 + The cost of this session includes all the materials required to design and print unto 1 metre+ of fabric. Tea, coffee, and light refreshments are included. Please stipulate if you have any dietary requirements when booking. We will be pausing for a short lunch break. you are welcome to bring a packed lunch. There is also a cafe on site. Places are limited to 6 participants to ensure that all members have plenty of 1:1 tuition and guidance on the day. You will be with a very experienced Tutor - I spent 17 years teaching Textiles Design in FE colleges. We will be using printing inks which may stain clothing. Please wear old clothes and bring an apron! There is a free car park directly opposite the venue.
